Betty Yeoh is one of the founding members of All Women’s Action Society (AWAM) in 1988. A past Vice-President of AWAM, she has remained as a member to this day. Betty is a key trainer/facilitator for AWAM, her main focus being on combating sexual harassment, especially at the workplace for corporate sectors, institutions of higher
learning. She also does Diversity in Work Culture in Multinational Corporates, building the capacity of policymakers and service providers on combating violence against women, gender sensitization and leadership training. Other training includes introducing basic helping skills for personnel to support services for survivors in public healthcare sector, Division on Sexual Abuse of Women and Children, D11 of Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM) and Welfare Officers (in-charge of domestic violence).
Betty also has been consulted in the area of sexual harassment (SH) at workplaces and institutions by organizations and institutions of higher learning. Some companies that SH training conducted include World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), Digi Telecommunication, Multimedia University, University of Malaya, University Malaysia, Sarawak. Monash University, Malaysia. Consultancy work carried out, among them with UiTM – Faculty of Multimedia and Communication, WWF, Carigali-Hess. In 2018, Betty did a desk review on Sexual Harassment in Malaysia for the United Nations Population Fund.
Betty has a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Social Science (Counseling), a Diploma in Industrial Relations and a Certificate in Personnel Management. She was trained as a Workers’ Educator in Sormaka, Norway and on Feminist Perspectives of Law by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law, and Development (APWLD), in Chiangmai, Thailand. Betty is also a Global Trainer of Trainers for the Women’s Leadership Partnership (WLP) based in Washington, USA, focusing in the core issues of leadership, human and women’s rights, gender-based violence and taking political action. Betty is currently pursuing her Master of Counselling at Open University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
