AWAM ’s training expertise is in areas such as gender analysis, rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, women and the media, and feminist counselling. We offer customised programmes and have worked with hospitals, the police, the welfare department and other government agencies as well as educational institutions, community groups and NGOs. Specifically for our younger constituencies, we have worked with 3R, a local television series for young women and girls, and offer programmes such as “Young Persons Take Charge”.

AWAM also conducts public education on a range of issues to change perceptions and challenge societal norms that restrict women’s freedom and security. We do this by putting up exhibitions and information booths, and holding talks, seminars and workshops. The media also routinely seeks our opinions, and this has enabled us to further surface women’s concerns to the public. Together, these different avenues allow us to increase the level and depth of understanding on women’s rights.

How to participate

AWAM’s trainers are usually members of staff or committed volunteers, all of whom have been equipped with the necessary skills for this role. There is also a full-time staff member who takes care of programme development, coordination and administration.

You can get involved in one of our training sessions or public education activities by writing in, and letting us know of your interest.

Check this page regularly to find out what training and education activities are currently going on, and if they are open to members of the public or are specially conducted for particular organisations and institutions.

Alternatively, you can request for us to conduct a training activity or hold a public education event especially for your needs. Write and let us know:

  • which is the issue , amongst the ones that AWAM works on, that you would like us to organise a training or public education activity;
  • who are the intended beneficiaries (schools, clubs, business entity, government department etc);
  • what are the dates that you are thinking of;
  • your position as coordinator or organiser of this proposed activity, and finally;
  • how we can contact you.

How to be an AWAM trainer?

AWAM’s training department is formed by a strong basis of committed volunteers who run the programmes; and we have a full-time Training Manager who takes care of programme development, coordination and administration.

Trainers’ recruitment takes place every year and the frequency depending very much on the organization needs and the availability of financial / human resources.

The recruitment programme will normally advertised in major newspapers. Therefore, we urge the public to keep an eye on the ‘Community Service’ column from time to time.
