Under a programme known as ASSET (Abused - Survivor - Sharing - Empowerment - Thrive), AWAM runs two Survivors Support Groups:
Rape Survivors Support Group
Launched in August 2002, this project aims to provide support to rape survivors through sharing sessions and discussions. Meetings are conducted once a month at the AWAM centre.
Domestic Violence Survivors Get-Together Group
This is an opportunity for women who have lived through domestic violence to meet, share their experiences and strengths in order to move towards being survivors.
Generally, women who have experienced domestic violence feel that they are alone and isolated. This get-together aims to break down this sense of isolation, and to offer support needed to move beyond victimisation. Survivors find strength and courage by meeting other women who have also experienced domestic violence.
The Domestic Violence Survivors Get-Together Group is a follow-up programme to the Educational Trip for Domestic Violence Survivors programme.
