Charity Treasure Hunt On Foot 2008--Hunting for Equal Footing
Our Treasure Hunt 2008 was a fantastic success! Thanks to all who participated! We would especially like to thank our sponsors* for providing so many of the resources for this year’s treasure hunt. Thanks also to those who helped to organize, set up, run, and clean up including, but by no means limited to, Ho Wai Ling, Abigail de Vries, Judith Loh-Koh, Sue Chong, Melody Song, Billie Day, Sharifah Shazana Syed, and Theresa Lim Chin Chin.

This was our largest treasure hunt to date, with 658 participants and 158 teams. Perhaps this was because, in the words of our president, “This year’s treasure hunt [took] on a different twist. Themed ‘Hunting on Equal Footing’ we opened up the event to women and men (and their families) to hunt alongside, as equals. To add to the fun of the hunt, we decided to have a walk hunt around Kuala Lumpur where anyone and everyone can take part. They can walk, jog, run, stroll (for the kiddies in strollers) and wheel (for the physically challenged) to reach the finishing line. Our prizes for the hunt [were] attractive, but what really motivates us is that the monies raised will enable us to continue in our efforts to better the lives of Malaysian women.

“The Treasure Hunt is the start of AWAM’s 20th anniversary celebrations. We have lined up several activities for our members as well as for our friends – workshops, public events, get-together and a year-end party in November.” The weekend brought AWAM and the public together in celebration of our 20th anniversary, with fun and prizes for everyone involved.
Our treasure hunt was particularly unique this year because teams were able to work side-by-side with the finalists of Amazing Race Asia II in a challenging hunt that circled around the Golden Triangle in Kuala Lumpur. At the end of the day, over RM 7,000 was given away in cash prizes to the lucky (or brilliant) winners. Thanks and congratulations to all who participated.
